Portland, OR

Our sister city to the south has had a ban on polystyrene since 1989. The City of Portland prohibits food vendors from using polystyrene as prepared food packaging. Click here to read Portland's polystyrene ordinance.

Oakland, CA -

The City of Oakland recently passed a polystyrene ordinance that requires food vendors to replace polysytrene prepared food packaging with biodegradable or compostable.

Berkeley, CA -

In 1990, the City of Berkeley became one of the first communities to ban polystyrene. Berkeley's ordinance prohibits the use of polystyrene in prepared food packaging and mandates that at least fifty precent of other materials used in prepared food packaging be recyclable.
